I got pregnant five times with PCOS

The most disturbing and devastating symptom I had as a young girl with PCOS was heavy menstrual flow. Changing pads every two hours didn’t help neither did joining two pads together.

My menses flowed like a punctured jugular vein the first four days and lasted for seven to ten days monthly.

About five years after my first menses, anaemia became a second skin.

I visited the hospital like my life depended on it and enjoyed the luxury of listening to many assumptions.

It was not until 2015, thirteen years after my first menses that I got a proper diagnosis.

My curiosity came alive. I wasn’t satisfied with the doctor’s response. I went out, in search of answers on the causes and treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome PCOS.

Two findings hit me like a boomerang:

  • The cause of PCOS is unknown
  • Women with PCOS are predisposed to infertility and diabetes.

There are more predispositions like heart disease, endometrial cancer, and obesity but infertility and diabetes were the most profound for me.

How do you solve a problem without knowing the cause? Let alone a medical puzzle.

Science doesn’t have all the answers. I think that’s proof that God exists and he knows it all.

My quest to find answers inspired me to do my masters in clinical chemistry and PhD in endocrinology(in view).

As of 2015 when I was diagnosed, I was a novice in hormone health doing her internship in medical laboratory science.

I was super worried at the realization that it might take years to feel a baby’s bumps.

I did what a newly married woman who was eager to hold her baby could have done: consulted a fertility specialist.

He punctured my polycystic ovary to encourage ovulation.

I took pills and more pills.

A year and three months after our wedding, my first baby arrived but the heavy flow continued till I discovered a simple trick. This trick can turn your own life around if you have PCOS.

When I was ready for baby two.

I took ovulation pill , No luck.

Ate more fruits and vegetables, my second clicked.

I had another aha moment.

I found out that cutting down on refined sugar reduced my symptoms drastically and also improved my chances of conception.

I thought I had found my lucky spot and a great natural contraceptive till my fourth baby arrived unplanned.

My fifth child shattered the ceiling transcending the natural contraceptive method I used and forcing her way into my baby incubation pot.

Alas, a woman super worried about having a child now has five. If I could you can.

Do you have PCOS?

Here are a few simple things you can do to improve your symptoms and chances of taking in:

  • Adjust your diet
  • Eat less carb especially refined ones , lots of fruits and vegetables
  • Exercise more
  • Sleep well for 7–8 hrs( too little and too much is bad).
  • Avoid stress
  • Do things that make you happy
  • Keep your doctor’s appointment
  • Wear patience like a robe enmeshed in positive attitude

Your baby will arrive at the right time.
